

Mr. Bertrand is a graduate of the HEC (Hautes Études Commerciales) school of management. Beginning in 1965, he occupied various positions in the Rhone-Poulenc Group and Aventis Pharma, including the following:
He served as Chairman and CEO of Pasteur Merieux Connaught from 1994 to 2002, and was a member of the Executive Committee of Rhone-Poulenc. In 1999, he was appointed deputy to the CEO of Aventis Pharma.
He has served as Chairman of the French “Syndicat National de l’Industrie Pharmaceutique”, (today LEEM) in 2000 and 2001 and currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Laboratoires Guerbet; Chairman of the Board of Directors of NEOVACS; and, as a director of the “Fondation pour la Recherche Médicale”
He is the co-author with Professor Pierre Saliou of Les Sentinelles de la Vie, a book on the world of vaccines, published in 2006 by éditions Albin Michel, Paris.
For his service to France, he has been decorated and inducted as a knight (chevalier) into both the l’ordre national du Mérite and l’ordre national de la Légion d’Honneur.
